Hello, I am Shyni Sudheer,
ICT Coordinator of Year 13, Multimedia coordinator of Year 11 Gems Oasis Coordinator, The Digital Leader, The Westminster School, Dubai. Please feel free to ask me ANY questions. |
After My father retired from army and we had to come back to Kannur, Kerala. My High school education was in Ursuline Senior Secondary School, Kannur. I graduated in Math from SN College Kannur and got my Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application from LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Kannur.
I started my teaching career as an instructor in Aptech after my Post Graduation Diploma in Computer Application from Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Science and Technology. Being a Math Graduate Math was always fascinating for me. After my wedding I came to Dubai. For a short time I worked as an Programmer/System Assembler in a firm. Here I got an exposure to the hardware. Then for around 6 months I worked as programmer/data entry operator in Gulf Adhesive Labels Factory. All this added to my studying and experience. Then after a year or so I joined as a teacher in The Westminster School, Dubai in 2000. Here I experienced an exciting start to international teaching.
In 2010 I was recognized by Microsoft Partners in Learning Program to be among the top innovative teachers in the world.http://www.albawaba.com/microsoft-recognizes-6-innovative-teachers-most-innovative-teachers-region
In 2011 I was again selected as one of the most innovative teachers worldwide. I was one of the 50 teachers from 31 countries that participated in the Partners in learning Institute in Redmond, Washington, USA. The Institute enabled teacher-trainers to coach other educators in effective teaching strategies using information communication technology in the classroom, and helping students gain valuable 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking, digital literacy and collaboration.
The training provided skills in innovative teaching practices, serving as a leader within the school or local community, and demonstrating influence over other teachers, school leaders and administrators. I believe I was chosen because I had demonstrated success in implementing technology creatively in my classroom.

Now as a School Digital leader, I believe that I should keep myself fully aware of innovative communities and stay active in such initiatives. I feel that within my capacity I should collaborate with leaders and communities from other schools which I do by attending GEMS' ICT Networking meetings and GEMS' Digital Hub meetings. This ensures that I can not only learn from their strengths but can also arrive at solutions to common problems.
This will allow me to not only be aware of the best practices but also to implement them in a supportive manner. I believe that a leader should set an example as someone who believes in innovation and is always willing to apply new ideas for the betterment of students. I have been able to achieve this through my work with Partners in Learning Program for the past two years and by adapting Innovative Teaching Practices inspired by the PIL Network. Trying to keep pace with quick learning students and interested teachers are all exciting prospects for me. I love to be updated with the digital natives and is now working towards bridging the gap between digital natives and would like to be a part of creating good digital citizens.
